So Long 2020!!

2020 has been…. well, we all know that it was challenging. But not all bad! 2020 will forever be the year that we fulfilled a dream and a goal, faced some fears, and solidified our love for Marionette’s Revenge. Amidst the pandemic, it was easy to see the inconveniences and the fear, but just beyond that, I found things I didn’t know I was looking for. The ability to appreciate the truly little things – A kind word or two has never carried so much weight, being able to hug a loved one after such a long time never felt so good, and I summoned up some bravery that I didn’t know I had. Hubs and I realized that we could work together and rely on each other’s strengths when we had trouble finding our own in ways that we had never had to before. Outside of our epic trip across the Caribbean, we faced job changes and losses, family…. stuff that is inevitable at times but still tough, moving away from the only place I have ever lived and making new friends, I experienced such a mix of homesickness and excitement of discovering my new town. 2020 was a riot of emotions and, sure, I would change some things given the opportunity, but the lessons were valuable and lifelong.

I love the idea of a clean slate and the beginning of a new year. While I find the overcrowded gym full of new years resolutioners a bit frustrating at times, I can appreciate the desire to work on ones self and something about the calendar literally and symbolically flipping to a new year gives me a feeling of hope that I just can’t seem to muster in May or August. I’m not claiming 2021 to be “my year”. Honestly, I think it is smarter to just ease into the new year really quietly and not to touch anything. But I will maintain the optimism of a fresh start as long as it will last.

In the spirit of gratitude, thank you 2020 for teaching me lessons I didn’t know I needed and reminding me of what is truly important. And here’s to a new year and whatever new adventures come our way!

  1. Very well said! Here’s to 2021 bringing us closer to those we’ve longed to hug, sitting back and enjoying the fruits of our labor, tossing every last mask in the trash and never taking life for granted again.
